NIRA engaged with Hong Kong and Shenzhen stakeholders on industrial cooperation, enterprise globalization, and frontier technology innovation.

Recently, Professor Wu Yabin, Secretary-General of the Global New Industrial Revolution Alliance (NIRA), conducted a series of exchanges in Hong Kong and Shenzhen with government officials, business leaders, industry partners, and knowledge partners, focusing on topics such as alliance development, international industrial cooperation, enterprise globalization, and frontier technology innovation.
Professor Wu met with Mr. Zhang Yong, Deputy Director of the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region. Professor Wu introduced the background of NIRA’s establishment, its development positioning, and its recent key initiatives. Director Zhang recognized NIRA’s strategic direction of being based in Hong Kong, connected with the Mainland, and oriented toward global cooperation. He encouraged the Alliance to further leverage Hong Kong’s role as an international platform to promote industrial collaboration and support enterprises’ global expansion, while focusing on the principles of “the nation’s needs, Hong Kong’s strengths and enterprises’aspirations.” Ms. Yu Jin from the Economic and Financial Affairs Division of the Liaison Office also attended the meeting. During his visit, Professor Wu also met with Mr. Zhou Qiang, Deputy Director of the Economic Affairs Department and Head of the Trade Division of the Liaison Office.

Professor Wu also visited Mr. David T. C. Lie, one of the co-initiator of NIRA, Member of the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), recipient of the Silver Bauhinia Star (SBS) and Justice of the Peace (JP),and Chairman & CEO of Newpower Group. Mr. Li provided important support during NIRA’s establishment process. The two sides exchanged views on NIRA’s future development in Hong Kong, the expansion of its international cooperation network, and ways to further leverage Hong Kong’s unique advantages in connecting the Mainland and the world.

Professor Wu also attended the inaugural Hong Kong VIVA Longevity Medicine Forum, where he exchanged insights with six leading scientists from renowned universities and research institutions in China and abroad on cutting-edge topics including brain-computer interfaces, homeostatic medicine, NAD+ metabolism, sleep rhythms, longevity vaccines, and Alzheimer’s disease prevention.
Professor Wu held discussions with Mr. Zhou Jiayi, Executive Vice-President of PowerChina International and President of PowerChina Asia Pacific; Mr. Chen Qi, Director of PowerChina International and Chief Representative of the Hong Kong-Macao Office; and Mr. Cui Jianhui, Chief Representative of Zhejiang Commercial Representative Office in HongKong (Guangdong-HongKong-Macao Greater Bay Area).

During his visit to Shenzhen, accompanied by Ms. Wang Xiaorong, Deputy Director of the Organization Department of the CPC Shenzhen Municipal Committee and Director-General of the Office of Public Sector Reform of the CPC Shenzhen Municipal Committee, Professor Wu visited Penta Technology, the first GBA-based emerging-tech firm listed under Chapter 18C of the HKEX Main Board Listing Rules. He also held discussions with Mr. Yang Ping, Party Secretary of the Shenzhen Loop Area Institute, and Ms. Zhu Yanmei, Advisor to the President of the Institute, exchanging views on AI for Science, technology commercialization, innovative talent development, and deeper collaboration between Hong Kong and Shenzhen in science, technology, and industry.

Looking ahead, NIRA will leverage its advantage as an international industrial organization headquartered in Hong Kong to build an open, open, inclusive, impartial and equitable innovation-collaboration platform for global stakeholders. The Alliance aims to identify industrial-scale application scenarios, commercial opportunities, international talent, long-term capital, implementation channels, and global recognition mechanisms for frontier technologies driving the AI-enabled New Industrial Revolution. It will also seek diverse global best-practice examples for “AI for Good” and develop multidimensional evaluation frameworks and standards.
Hong Kong offers unique strengths in international research networks, capital markets, and professional services, while Shenzhen possesses leading capabilities in artificial intelligence industries, engineering implementation, and application ecosystems. the Hetao Shenzhen-Hong Kong Science and Technology Innovation Cooperation Zone serves as an important node connecting scientific research, talent, technology, and industrial resources between the two cities. Together, Hong Kong, Shenzhen, and Hetao present significant opportunities for future development and collaboration.
